Vítor Joaquim tem desenvolvido um percurso ímpar na música experimental nacional, servindo-se do laptop como principal ferramenta e, desde meados dos anos ’80, Joaquim tem-se afirmado em Portugal como um dos pioneiros da música criada digitalmente. Este novo disco Nothingness surge na sequência dos álbuns Impermanence (também solo de Joaquim) e Tuning the Invisible do projecto HAN (duo de Joaquim com Emídio Buchinho). Vítor Joaquim serve-se de laptop e sons gravados de instrumentos tradicionais (piano, teclados, electrónica, guitarra e outros). A toada, como habitualmente, é ambiental e soa como um sedutor zumbido hipnótico. Os temas vão evoluindo lentamente, surgem novos elementos, mas vamos sempre acompanhando um fluxo de murmúrio contínuo.
“Since nothing seems to resist the passage of time and yet everything seems to last as if time has not passed, this album is like a boat stranded in time, docked at a quay of forgotten places, where from time to time music is heard from past but soon fade like a mist carried by the sea breeze. Everything is impermanent and can only be so. As if it were away, not here or there, lost everywhere, not expecting to know where it might be but be elsewhere and nowhere at the same time. Always knowing that here and now is the only moment in which we can truly live happiness.”
